Free T4
Supporting to diagnose and monitor thyroid disease and conditions
Free T4 test measures the level of the hormone thyroxine (T4) in your blood. The thyroid gland produces T4 in response to thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). T4 is found in the body in two forms: free T4 and bound T4. A total T4 test can measure the total amount of both free and bound T4 in the blood, while a free T4 test will only measure the amount of T4 in its free form, so it more accurately reflects how the thyroid gland is functioning.

In Your Medical Field
Thyroid tests are used to check how well your thyroid is working and to find the cause of problems such as hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. The results of free T4 blood test are usually done together with the results of other thyroid function tests such as the TSH and T3 (triiodothyronine) test. T4 (thyroxine) is one of two major hormones produced by the thyroid gland and Free T4 is the thyroxine that is not attached to a protein in the blood. Testing for free T4 is more accurate than testing for TSH and total T4 and it can assist diagnosis and monitor thyroid disease and conditions.
